Lucy and Tilly – Greyhounds in Black and White

Whenever I’m editing a shoot, I do it in a way that best reflects the animal’s personality – some dogs burst with colour and vibrancy, and others are a more soft and subtle colour pallete to reflect their gentle nature. With Lucy and Tilly, their elegance, sweetness, and loving natures lent themselves so perfectly to black and white. Greyhounds are such amazing dogs – Lucy and Tilly were so gentle and majestic. Both ex racing Greyhounds, the girls are now living their lives surrounded by complete love. Their owner Joy describes Tilly as “shy at first, a bit reserved, but playful, agile, light as air, my ballerina” and Lucy as “friendly, laid back, very sweet, can be stubborn”.

A special thank you must go to Joy, who won this session through a very generous donation to the Melbourne Pet Ambulance as part of their auction last year. MPA is an organisation that helps transport urgent and non urgent pet patients, as well as caring for many stray, abandoned, and injured animals and wildlife.

Lucy

I’m a huge fan of black and white, it’s so emotive and beautiful. I think you’ll agree that Lucy the Greyhound suits it extremely  well!

Buddy the Poodle x Shih Tzu works it for the camera

When you work with animals, you have to accept that you cannot control what’s going to happen. As a pet photographer, my job is to grab those gorgeous shots despite how my subject is acting – it’s all part of the fun. But occasionally you get an exception to the rule.

Like Buddy.

I suspect Buddy was a male model in his past lifetime, because the second I got my camera out he started posing. Tilting his chin up, turning his head from side to side, and with a wonderful variety of facial expressions – priceless. Louise and Dave, I suspect Buddy is ready for his career in the spotlight!

This shot now has pride of place as a gorgeous canvas on the wall

Maggie, Jasmine, and Ruby

I’m so thrilled to share this session with you all – really I couldn’t have asked for better subjects. Three beautiful girls, each one with their own wonderful personality and cheekiness. Maggie is the oldest, and apparently loves having her fur blow dried! Jasmine think she is a mini human and queen of the castle, and sweet Ruby loves nothing more than spending her day on her human’s bed.

When you have models like these, the photos just come naturally – I hope you love them as much as I do!
