Happy Birthday to Me

My business is a year old today – and what an amazing year it has been. It hasn’t been without its significant challenges but I can safely say that I’ve had the best year of my life.

A huge thank you to all my beautiful clients for allowing me to photograph your precious pets – it’s been an honour working for you. Another huge thank you needs to go to Karen, Lauren, Shannon and the team at Saffron on the Hill, becoming involved with you guys has been life changing.

The biggest thank you of all has to go to my amazing partner Jeremy, whose support has never once wavered. Men like Jeremy are so incredibly special and I’m lucky to have him in my life.

These birds happen to think he’s pretty great too

And last but certainly not least, my special little man Harry, who has been a constant source of inspiration, a very ineffective office assistant, my business mascot, and most importantly – my best friend.

I’ve got big plans for the next year – stay tuned!

The Best of July

Welcome to my new blog feature, Best of the Month. I’ve started this feature to showcase my work from each month, as well as sharing some of my personal highlights. I’m cheating a little bit with this one and sharing some of June as well, so lets dive on in!

My biggest highlight this month was being named as one of the Pet Anthology’s 30 Inspiring Pet Photographers. To be named as inspiring is such an honour, and even more amazing was being named alongside some big international names. I absolutely love what I do and it’s amazing to be acknowledged for it.

Another great highlight for me was completing the Saffron on the Hill 2013 Calendar. It’s been a labour of love and I am beyond thrilled at the final result. I wrote about my experience creating the calendar over at Hair of the Dog. We are just finishing up with pre-orders and hoping to launch it for sale to the public by the end of the week, so stay tuned! Here’s a sneak peek of Mr May – Zach aka the Pirate of Love

I also had a very special session with Tracey and her four beautiful dogs, Mia, Abi, Kody, and Gemma. Each dog is so beautiful in their own way and they are so loved.

Blake’s session was an absolute blast – I don’t know who was more exhausted after, him or me!

On a personal note, our lovely houseguest Reggie went home to her Mum and Dad, who were thrilled to see her!

And our beautiful foster kittens, Mr Moo and Justin B arrived. They are still looking for their forever home, so please get in touch if you’d like to meet these amazing boys

On a very special final note, Granny Giggles turned ten years old! Granny was kept in a puppy farm most of her life and could barely walk due to muscle wastage when she came to Saffron on the Hill.  Karen has done an incredible job rehabilitating her, and we thought it was only fair that she get absolutely spoiled rotten in her tenth year. You can see the full set of photos over at my Facebook Page

August is set to be a busy month – I’ll be doing marketing plans and budgets for the year, as well as getting ready for spring Pet Portrait sessions. I’ve got some great ones coming up that I can’t wait to share with you all. I’ll also be launching a Father’s Day special that will help take the pain out of gift giving. And above all else, my business will be turning one year old! I’ll have a special post for you then.

Thanks so much for reading, and don’t forget to join me on Facebook!

Blake – Pet’s Haven Charity Auction session

Blake’s awesome owners bid on my voucher as part of a fundraising auction for Pet’s Haven Animal Shelter, a rescue group here in Melbourne, Australia. Blake’s parents are passionate about animal welfare, and adopted Blake when he was a little pup. Eighteen months on Blake is still very much a puppy, but he knows his commands beautifully. He sat, dropped and heeled like a champion and gave me such a cool variety of poses and expressions.

Blake is a Lab/Kelpie cross – for those of you who don’t know, Kelpie’s are working dogs and end up in shelters all too often because people don’t give them the exercise or mental stimulation they need. Blake ran rings around us at the local park before playing a bit of tug o war in the back garden, until he finally gave in and fell sound asleep on the carpet. Check out his amazing amber eyes – I’ve never seen eyes quite like them!

Thanks for reading – remember all Pet Portrait sessions booked by the end of September receive a $100 print credit, so email me today to secure your place!

Tracey’s Girls

Tracey was the winner of my Melbourne pet photography Winter Giveaway, and it was just lovely to meet her gorgeous pets.

First up, there’s Mia, the cheeky black pug. Mia was a puppy farm dog and despite her terrible start in life, she’s a happy well adjusted girl who is adored by all. Mia loves a cuddle and a treat and was just full of smiles.

Next up is Gemma, the beautiful Red Kelpie. Gemma is a very smart dog, with a very gentle nature. Gemma was also rescued from a bad start to life, and she’s spoiled rotten, just how it should be.

Abby is a pug/cavalier cross and she’s a darling girl, incredibly photogenic and with a sweet personality. Abby’s eyes are just to die for!

And last but certainly not least is Kodie! Kodie is a stunning girl who just loves her cuddles. She was a little camera shy at first but we still got some lovely shots of her. When I left she was snuggled under the blanket with Tracey’s daughter, sound asleep.

The cats didn’t think I should leave without a few shots of them as well – say hello to Cleo and Chester! Chester planted himself on my lap and was very reluctant to let me leave, he’s a giant smooch.
