Lorenzo had waited so patiently for his forever home at the shelter. A sweet, happy, and lovely natured boy, he must have been so confused as to why he was constantly passed up for younger, cuter, less “scary” looking dogs. Nine months after he arrived, he was finally taken to his forever home, where he is the most wonderfully loved and adored dog. He goes on huge walks every day with his mum, as many cuddles as he wants, and he loves to sit on visitor’s laps like a big baby. Lorenzo showed me that more than anything, if you are patient, be yourself, and kind to others, good things will eventually happen – and you too will get your happy ending.

Josie
Josie – thirteen years young, queen of all she surveys, and a top notch guard dog. Likes – her mum and dad, her stuffed toy. Dislikes – the strange lady with the camera (well, until the treats came out).
Thor
Today’s shoot was with the absolutely gorgeous Thor – despite his name he really was a bit of a teddy bear. I will be sharing the rest of his session in the next few weeks so stay tuned!
Noodle and Baxter the Yorkies
One of the things I love about pet photography, is the huge variety of dogs I get to photograph, and I rarely photograph the same breed twice. Melbourne has such a wonderful range of dogs, from the tiniest of Chihuahuas to big goofy Great Danes. Noodle and Baxter the Yorkshire Terriers definitely fell at the tiny end of the spectrum but they are such big personalities – they have no idea that they are so small!
These two pocket rockets were an absolute blast to photograph – they teared around the house as soon as I arrived, wiggled their little tails while they got harnessed, then ran as fast as possible around their local park. Once they had burned off a bit of energy, we came home and they flopped on their mum’s bed – and Baxter did his party trick of hopping into a handbag, apparently he’s done it to many an unsuspecting guest! As I packed up to go, they sprang back up and I managed a few more shots, before they passed out exhausted on the couch. I’m not sure who was more tired, them or me, but we all had an absolute ball and I love the variety of shots we got.

Lucy and Tilly – Greyhounds in Black and White
Whenever I’m editing a shoot, I do it in a way that best reflects the animal’s personality – some dogs burst with colour and vibrancy, and others are a more soft and subtle colour pallete to reflect their gentle nature. With Lucy and Tilly, their elegance, sweetness, and loving natures lent themselves so perfectly to black and white. Greyhounds are such amazing dogs – Lucy and Tilly were so gentle and majestic. Both ex racing Greyhounds, the girls are now living their lives surrounded by complete love. Their owner Joy describes Tilly as “shy at first, a bit reserved, but playful, agile, light as air, my ballerina” and Lucy as “friendly, laid back, very sweet, can be stubborn”.
A special thank you must go to Joy, who won this session through a very generous donation to the Melbourne Pet Ambulance as part of their auction last year. MPA is an organisation that helps transport urgent and non urgent pet patients, as well as caring for many stray, abandoned, and injured animals and wildlife.
