The Gag Reel

With pet photography, I often shoot in “burst” mode, about five or six shots at once to make sure I nail the photo. Every now and then I’ll snap a frame that has me in absolute hysterics. I work really hard to capture certain expressions during a shoot so it’s so great when you get something completely unplanned and unexpected. I’ve been saving them for a blog post for a while now – one day I’ll hopefully have enough for a book.  I hope these bring a smile to your face like they do to mine.

Percy the Chihuahua – be very afraid!

Tom the Poodle has had a looooong day

Otis the mini foxie is having a tough time

Grandma Giggles had a hard time keeping her outfit from falling over her face. I loved this one so much I’ve got it hanging in my office

Little PK the Griffon gets caught mid head shake

Scrumpy is not letting out an almighty howl, I think he was just starting a yawn

And finally – my boys and their tongues

Seventeen years young

In my experience, senior dogs tend to be chilled out and a bit slower than young dogs. Not Otis (or Oti as he’s often called) – he’s an old boy but has the energy of a puppy. Oti’s mum has had him since she was ten years old, and he’s lived an adventurous life, having lived in both the Gold Coast and Tauranga before settling in Wellington, New Zealand.

Wellington turned on the charm weather wise (a rare occurrence), so we headed to the park for some shots, where Otis had a great time ruining his mum’s grooming. So it was home for a quick bath before he finally fell asleep on his bean bag.

Photographing senior pets is always such an honour, it makes me so happy to know that their owners will have beautiful photos for years to come. Ready to book a Pet Portrait session for your senior pet? Email me on erin@erinmcnulty.com. I’m currently taking bookings for spring/summer in Melbourne and expressions of interest for summer sessions in New Zealand.

Otis

Otis is seventeen year old mini fox terrier who you would swear is half his age. Pet photography in Wellington, in fact any outdoor activities in Wellington are at the mercy of the elements, but today the weather was stunning and warm. I’ll have Otis’ full session a bit later on in the week. If you live in Wellington and are interested in having a professional pet photography session, send me an email on erin@erinmcnulty.com. I travel back to NZ several times a year and would love to create some gorgeous photos for you on my next visit!

Blake – Pet’s Haven Charity Auction session

Blake’s awesome owners bid on my voucher as part of a fundraising auction for Pet’s Haven Animal Shelter, a rescue group here in Melbourne, Australia. Blake’s parents are passionate about animal welfare, and adopted Blake when he was a little pup. Eighteen months on Blake is still very much a puppy, but he knows his commands beautifully. He sat, dropped and heeled like a champion and gave me such a cool variety of poses and expressions.

Blake is a Lab/Kelpie cross – for those of you who don’t know, Kelpie’s are working dogs and end up in shelters all too often because people don’t give them the exercise or mental stimulation they need. Blake ran rings around us at the local park before playing a bit of tug o war in the back garden, until he finally gave in and fell sound asleep on the carpet. Check out his amazing amber eyes – I’ve never seen eyes quite like them!

Thanks for reading – remember all Pet Portrait sessions booked by the end of September receive a $100 print credit, so email me today to secure your place!

A very special birthday

Granny Giggles arrived at Saffron on the Hill severly underweight, malnourished, and with so little muscle mass that she could barely walk. Ten months of intensive TLC have seen her become a happy, healthy, and adored little dog.  Granny Giggles turned ten yesterday and the team at Saffron decided it couldn’t go by without a huge fuss. It was a lovely celebration and Granny’s little tail didn’t stop wagging the whole day. Happy Birthday little girl, you deserve all the happiness in the world
